For Quality Features in a Bloodhound, look for the following:
A Bloodhound should have a large head and wrinkled face with pronounced lips and throat giving him a somber expression. The eyes are deep sunken and the lids form a diamond shape. The skin may pull the lower eyelids down the dog a sad look.
The ears hang low and are long and soft. The neck is long The shoulders should be muscular and sloped back with good angulation front and rear. Feet should be well knuckled. The chest should be deep.
There are several breed organizations that recognize the Bloodhound:
1. American Kennel Club (AKC)
2. Canadian Kennel Club (CKC),
3. Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI)
4. The Kennel Club of Great Britain (KC).
AKC standards:
Adult Dogs average 25-27 inches at the shoulders,
weight 90 lbs.-110 lbs.
Adult Bitches average 23-26 inches at the shoulders,
weight 75 lbs.-100 lbs.
Bloodhounds are very elastic with a swinging movement and with well sprung ribs. Bloodhounds are not known to have a perfect bite, however, the scissor bite is preferred.
