Hi Shelly
I just thought I would share my new SAR pup with you. His name is Cracker Jack aka Jack because I'm sure he has a surprise inside just waiting to get out. Thanks for all you expertise without it I couldn't have made the right decision. I'm positive that your pups are incredible but way above my level. We need alot more honest & educated breeders just like you that love what they do!
Thanks again, Cindy

Good morning Shelley,

I just thought you might be interested in how Buster is doing.

From the moment he arrived, my Yellow Lab (Yogi) and Buster have been inseparable. Even if one of them has to go to the Vet, they both go. Yogi just pampers Buster to no end. From the first day they eat, sleep, and get into mischief together.
I have included some pictures for your scrap book.

Thanks,

Subject: The best puppy EVER!
Date: Tue, 29 Mar 2005 09:36:30 -0500

Ike has definitely moved in - gets along with cats, dogs, family. Is
learning about the horses. I carry him when we get close. (Feed bucket in
one hand , Ike in the other!)

He seems to have the most wonderful personality. He saw himself in a
mirror which is behind a bench on the floor (I was repainting a room) and
started to howl, bark and growl - the cutest thing!

He completely knows his name, is eating really well, plays, comes when I
call. I failed in the sleeping in the crate department. He cried so hard
(like in "Lady and the Tramp") so I finally took him to bed. He snuggled
into his sleeping bag and grunted approval. He sleeps through the night
and wakes me in the morning by pulling my hair. When he grows up I might
have to get a bigger bed!

Thanks for the wonderful addition to our family!

Nina

p.s. the vet says he is extremely healthy!

Update for April 10, 2005:

Subject: The best puppy EVER! Getting better all the time.
Date: Fri, 8 Apr 2005 14:14:33 -0400

Ike is growing like crazy, yet he remains the sweetest addition to our
family. His favorite pastime is playing with our cats, especially the
long-haired ones which he can grab and drag around better. When they
finally make it clear to him that they have had enough he sits down looking
perplexed and does a little "howly bark" or frustration. He loves feeding
the horses and sheep - although he is still not sure what to make of the
sheep, they are, smelly and just stare back at him. He is great in the
car, on the couch, on the bed, playing with the dogs. he has two favorite
toys, a soft "Moon" toy and a "Kong" - however, anything that stand still
long enough can be a toy as well. he is very good-natured and has a
terrific sense of humor. We love him! We took pictures which should be
back this weekend - of course he is now much bigger than a week ago!

Subject: Re: bloodhound

I would recommend Hounddawgs any day of the week!
Ours was the first bloodhound my wife and I had ever
owned, and I can't imagine owning any other dog.
She's just over a year and a half old, and in great
health. About the only thing we ever have to worry
about is that she is a flea magnet, but then again, we
live in Florida. She is absolutely gorgoues and
people comment on her everywhere we go. Her
temperment is great, as she's never fought with
another dog, and loves attention from anyone who will
give it. Shelley has always been great, as when she
(her name is Cornbread) was just a puppy, my wife and
I were extremely worry filled parents and we would
write Shelley all the time to ask for advice. We even
plan on getting another one, we're just waiting for
her parents to have another litter!

I would of course be more than willing to be contacted
in the future as we are the only bloodhound owners we
know and would love to talk to others. Hopefully I
can remember to take some new pictures of Cornbread
soon and have Shelly put them on the website. Thanks
for writing, and good luck!

Noel

hi how are you? we are good, just writing to tell you thank you for roxy she is wonderful. a bit spoiled lol but i knew that would happen. since we have had her she has had her picture taken with santa, learned to crawl on the bed, and entertained many people. we are having a little problems potty training her but she is starting to get the hang of it. she has really taken a liking to me, but will settle for my wifes attention if i am not around.she has gotten bigger about 35-45 pounds i guess. i dont have any pics yet but i will get some for you.she is really lovable sometimes too much. i took her to the hospital where my mom works here a little girl called her and she pulls my wife right along and she jumps up on people and plowed over a little girl and slobbered her face up a little but it was a joy to hear the laughter lol. she is scheduled for a shot and we have lost her shot records can you tell me what she needs? she loves to be groomed by the way. well talk to you later and hopefully i will be getting a male soon.

Cornbread is doing just great. She is 16 weeks now and she weighed in at the vet the other day at 29 pounds! She's finally catching up with her paws and ears. We take her to a local dog park almost everyday and she loves playing with the other dogs. She's getting pretty big for them and will move up to the large dog park soon, although I think she believes that she's ready now. Sleeping through the night has never been a problem and she loves her kennel. She is very well behaved, and the only thing she ever does is jumps on you, but only so she can lick your face! We love her so much and are so pleased with her, I would love another one!

Subject: Bill Meadows puppy

Hi Mom,
Just wanted to say hi and to let you know that I really like my new family, especially my new friend 'Daisy'. She's a Basset Hound and she lets me play with her a lot.
I'm not sure I liked riding in the belly of that Big Bird thing they call an airplane, so I was really glad when Bill picked me up. He's my new dad now and I think he really loves me.
I had to go to the Dr's yesterday for a shot and they also gave me some medicine for roundworms (preventative). I weigh 21.3 pounds and I was a really good boy at the Dr's.
I don't have this urinating on the grass thing down yet, I go anywhere and anytime I feel like it, but I'm working on it.
My blue doll toy is still my favorite (except for Daisy) and I usually sleep with it at night. Well, guess I'll go for now.
Here's a couple of pics my new mom took of me (aren't I cute)!!! Oh yeah, my name is Yogi :-)

Subject: YOGI

Hi Shelley,
Just wanted to let you know that we received Yogi's papers back the other day, thankyou. He's doing good, getting big. Bill gave him his last parvo shot instead of taking him to the vet so I'm not sure what his weight is but I think he's doing ok weight wise. We're really enjoying him but will be glad when his 'chewing & biting' stage is over or at least calms down. He hasn't had any 'accidents' in the house in quite a while, although he's outside most of the time. Here's a couple of pictures I took of him almost 2 weeks ago when he was 12 weeks. I'll send updated pictures periodically. Take care, Lisa

Hi Shelley,
Just thought I'd fwd some pics of 'Breeze' to you, and give you an update on him. We ended up recently having to put our older bassethound to sleep due to some health problems she was having. So, now it is just Breeze and Maggie. They have really become buddies over the past couple of weeks, and having Breeze, I think really helped Maggie adjust quickly to the loss of Millie. Also, I thought I'd let you know that we got Breeze neutered this past week -- We had planned on waiting a while longer, but he somehow poked his eye with something and got a splinter in it that had to be removed so, the vet suggested we do both procedures at once so, he would only have to go under anesthetic once. He is doing great, and doesn't even act like he had anything done. The vet also asked me to ask you if Breeze's parents had been cleared of any hip dysplasia, with an OFA certificate. I told the vet I was not sure and that I would try and contact you, and ask. The vet said he did not see any problems with Breeze, but for in the future as he gets older they would like to know this information. Thanks -- We love the dog he is great! He is walking on the leash well now, and knows a few simple commands -- sit, stay, down, and 'pottie'. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Subject: YOGI (Bloodhound pup)

Hi Shelly, I took some pictures of Yogi yesterday that I thought you may enjoy seeing. Daisy (our Basset hound) had puppies 6 weeks ago and when she allows Yogi to get close to them, he just loves them. The other day I weighed him, he's 70 lbs and soooooo strong. People can't believe that he's not even 5 months yet. He has a 'thing' about putting his paw on everything. Take care, I'll stay in touch.

Dear Shelley,
Hi! Thought you might enjoy seeing some recent pictures of Breeze. These were taken last week. ...I can't even begin to tell you how much we love this guy. He runs with me now -- We go 3 miles at a time. He knows how to sit, stay, lay down, shake hands and speak now. Anyway, I just wanted to keep in touch and let you know how he's been doing. If you are ever out the Albuquerque way let us know, we'd love for you to stop by so, we could show him off. Take Care, Denise

Subject: Re: Happy Easter!

Shelley -

She's so WONDERFUL - sniffs like a bloodhound but very active and playing all the time with the Shepherd 2nd from the left (the 6 year old "puppy"). She spends all day outside with sticks, bushes (she pulls out my Azaleas) and tree limbs or logs from the wood pile if given the chance. She is so beautiful (great velvety coat, clean eyes, etc) but in trouble all the time.

Since she is my first, I have no idea what she should act like but she certainly doesn't sit quietly on the porch. My Shepherds are used to the picture thing - they are teaching her. She is super obedient but howls when she's pissed at me. I may want another one soon!! Got pups coming?? Regards, Carol

Hey there Shelley,
It's me, Denise -- the lady that adopted Breeze last August. My husband, Joe and I have been talking and we wanted to ask your opinion on possibly getting another Bloodhound. The reason we are thinking about it is because right now we have Breeze and we have our 8 year old Basset, Maggie. Breeze is so rough with Maggie -- He isn't trying to hurt Maggie, but because he is so much bigger now. He weighs over 100 lbs compared to Maggie at about 40 lbs. Joe and I were thinking that maybe it would be easier on Maggie if Breeze had someone his own size to run around and play with. Not only does he overpower Maggie, but he wears her out too. My concern is what would that do to our 'animal situation'. Right now Maggie is the dominant dog, but she really isn't naturally a leader. Breeze is so big, and lots of times gets his way with her just because of his size. He is not mean or aggressive at all, but he is persistent and will antogonize her just like a little brother. I was thinking maybe if we again went with the most submissive male puppy in a litter that it might work. What do you think? Also, I got on your website last night and saw that on your web page it mentioned that you might have puppies availible in the Spring. We are taking a vacation in June, and won't be back until June 25th. We were wondering if you might have some puppies availble around the time we got back. I wouldn't want to get a new puppy before then because of the upcoming vacation. Let me know what you think -- I would really appreciate your feedback. I look forward to hearing from you.
Denise
p.s. I've enclosed a few pictures of Breeze and Maggie -- You can see the size difference pretty well, although when they are both standing up it is really obvious. Maggie can easily walk right underneath Breeze with quite a bit of clearance.
